Sometimes, the right-click button of your mouse or touchpad may not work due to the hardware issues. In such situations, you can use the given techniques to use the keyboard.

1. Right-click with mouse keys in Windows 10

If you are using Windows 10, then it can be pretty easy to right-click even without a mouse or touchpad. That is because the OS version includes a feature called mouse key, which offers you keyboard control to move or utilize the cursor. You can activate the mouse key using the below technique:

  1. Turn on your computer and go to the search bar. Write “mouse keys” on there.
  1. In the search result, you will find the “turn mouse keys on or off” option. Click on it. After doing so, you will be moved to a window like this.
  1. Turn on the mouse keys option from there. You can also increase or reduce the cursor speed from the tab.

You can use the number pad on your keyboard to control the mouse cursor. Besides, the “/“, “*”, and “-“ will act as the mouse button. There the “-“ button will be the right-click.

You can even perform some advanced mouse key settings from the control panel. Go to the ease of access from the control panel and then go to the ease of access center. Then open the make the mouse easier to use tab and then click on set up mouse keys options. You will be an interface like this:

From the window, you can turn on/off mouse keys, control the cursor speed, and do some other settings. Tweak the settings as you prefer and save the adjustment by clicking on ok.

2. Right Click with Tab and Cursor Key

In the Windows operating system, the Tab button can be used as a cursor key by turning on the shortcut key functionality. Now, you can use the tab for moving the cursor and Enter for clicking on the file/function. That means pretty much the same functionality as the right-key button.

Some of the windows pc may also include a button like this which offers you the same functionalities of the right-click. It may look different on the other keyboards. Don’t worry, if you don’t have the option on your Windows PC. You can use the universal shortcut option as we mentioned below.

3. Right-Click on Windows with Keyboard (Shift + F10)

Even if your keyboard doesn’t include a dedicated physical button on your PC, you can use its functionality by using the universal shortcut buttons.

  1. Move the cursor to the file you want to right-click. You can do this by following the steps mentioned earlier using tab or mouse keys.
  2. Now click on Shift and F10 button from the keyboard together. The F10 button should be on the top of the keyboard.

After doing so, the drop-down of the right-click will open and you can use the preferred option by moving the cursor.

How to Right-Click in MacOS using Keyboard

Just like the mouse keys in the windows, there is an option called “alternate click” on the Mac operating system. It allows you to use the keyboard as a cursor and also allows you to right-click. However, the alternate click is not set up on default.

You can easily turn on the alternate click option from the system preferences. There you can set up the right-click behaviour under the mouse and trackpad options. After doing so, you can right-click using two fingers on the trackpad or using the magic mouse option. Now you can easily generate a right-click by tapping the control or ctrl button.

Note that the Alt key is not the control key. In the Mac computers, the Ctrl option will be at the end of the keyboard on the left or right size. It will not be next to the spacebar as you see in Windows.

Conclusion:

Right-click with a keyboard is pretty easy on the Windows and Mac PC. You can use any of the mentioned procedures in the article to perform right-click without a mouse. We hope that you will find the methods useful.
